Course Description: The 14th-century mystic Julian of Norwich is perhaps best known for the famous phrase - told to her by God - that "all shall be well." We do well to inquire what exactly that means. But did you also know that she is the first writer in the English language who can definitely be identified as a woman? And what a writer! In her only book, she offers us a fascinating re-thinking of sin which she gathers from her visions. She is every bit the mystic that St. Ignatius was, and if he offers us Exercises to find God working in our lives, she offers us a breathtakingly beautiful view of why we would care to find God at all. Her Revelations of Divine Love is one of the most important mystical texts in the Christian tradition. Join us for an exploration of this text and the medieval tradition in which it is born!

Christopher Dodsworth joined the SHC faculty in 2008. His research lies at the intersection of philosophy and theology. A life-long Catholic, he is always seeking to understand his faith better. He has long been fascinated with St. Newman, whose thought has been widely influential, including on Vatican II and the nature and growth of Catholic universities.
